| AMAG launched the intern program in June 2005 to provide an instructive, fun and insightful environment during the summer months. The program has been met with great success and continues as a year long program, enlisting primarily high school students with an interest the many areas AMAG covers. All interns learn an invaluable experience with the inner workings of a publication ranging from layout to final product. Interns are responsible for (in part) reporting & interviewing, proof reading, conducting surveys, layout, photography, flier distribution, web searches, mailings, marketing concepts, distribution, cold and follow up phone calls, assisting at local festival, youth and senior functions. The Program is primarily funded by Authors Helping Youth whose book donations generate sales to further fund the program. Working in conjunction with Black Star News, & The Williamsburgh Music Center these interns work is spread beyond AMAG. As of January 2007 trips and retreats are now added to the program. These trips include visits to sporting events, fairs, education institutions and museums working in conjunction with youth participating in Teen Awareness Day. |
